Towards a new Marshall Plan for Europe

Europe Day held on 9 May every year celebrates peace and unity in Europe. The date marks the anniversary of the historical Schuman Declaration setting out the idea of a new form of political cooperation in Europe.

Now, with Europe in the throes of changes wrought by the coronavirus pandemic, large-scale political cooperation is needed once more in the face of perhaps the biggest economic crisis since the end of World War 2.

This virtual conference, organised by Euractiv with the support of Huawei, and featuring Huawei’s Chief Representative to the EU Institutions Abraham Liu, examined whether Europe’s response will amount to a new Marshall Plan for Europe, and if so what the role of digital technology will be in empowering the economic recovery.
