Statement by Huawei on the proposed approach to securing the 5G network in the Netherlands:
“Huawei has taken knowledge of the 5G Task Force Report that was announced today. We welcome the fact-based and nuanced approach of the Dutch government. An open and transparent safety guarantee framework contributes to the sustainable development of the entire industry and the digital transformation of the Netherlands. It also facilitates the further development of reliable, high-quality networks that enable safe and fast communication between people.
We are aware of the concerns that live in society regarding cybersecurity. Security threats do not come from suppliers of telecom equipment, but from parties that have a different purpose and exploit vulnerabilities. Cybersecurity is a joint responsibility of all parties in the field of telecommunications. Collaboration between all relevant parties in the IT sector is therefore crucial to address cyber security challenges. With this report, the government is opting for a harmonized, European line in the field of 5G and will therefore take some time before completing the concrete measures. Huawei is in favor of this European approach.
In addition, Huawei will continue to do everything it can to comply with the standards set by the Dutch government. By supplying the most advanced and secure technology, Huawei supports the ambition of the Netherlands to remain a digital leader within the European Union.”
