Statement on the remarks by Commissioner Julian King regarding the submission of EU member states’ 5G risk assessments

Huawei welcomes the fact-based approach that the EU plans to take in reviewing the national risk assessments of 5G network infrastructure, as announced by Julian King, Member of the EC in charge of the Security Union, today. We fully agree with the stance that common security standards for 5G networks are required across the EU and welcome the Commissioner’s announcement that such measures will not be targeting particular services or suppliers. We are delighted to see that the European Commission is keeping security and trade considerations separate.

It is now more important than ever to develop a common approach to cybersecurity. Huawei strongly supports the Commission’s call on all key players to jointly build a common approach to 5G security risk management. We are ready to engage further with the EU in order to offer our expertise in this area as policy-makers are preparing the toolbox of effective measures for 5G security risk mitigation to be presented in October.
